Ads sell more than products, they sell values, images, concepts of love, sexuality, success, and perhaps most importantly of normalcy. To a great extent they tell us who we are and who we should be…
This flawless-ness cannot be achieved, NO ONE looks like this.
I think it’s SO important that people realize that the beauty industry plays on your insecurities to then take your money. They use negative language like
- EMBARRASSING body hair
- DISGUSTING flab
- get PERFECT skin
And though one may not think this affects them, it unconsciously will. The beauty industry basically tells you. “Your appearance is the problem, and if you’ve got the money, we’ve got the solution”
Your appearance is NOT the problem, self-esteem is the problem, it’s time to start loving yourself again :)
